Verrado

Master-planned Community

Project Description:  The Verrado project consisted of the planning and design of a water supply, treatment and delivery systems for the first phase of the 8,800-acre development in Buckeye, Arizona.  The Verrado site was located in the desert where no water supply or infrastructure existed.

Special considerations included:

• Mountainous terrain resulted in up to 8 different pressure zones within a short distance.  CVL designed the water system after careful evaluation of the mountainous pressure zones and determined that by using multiple booster pumps, water pressures could be easily maintained.  Pressures remained consistent and potable drinking water was delivered to homes with ease.

• Five water wells provide a reliable potable water supply to the community.  The mountainous terrain made well locations difficult.  Water had to be located some 5 miles away in the alluvial fan and low laying areas.  CVL designed a 24 inch 5 mile long waterline to bring water to the site.

• Water treatment in a remote location.  CVL helped design a sophisticated System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) control system to maximize well pumping effi ciencies.  The SCADA enabled Arizona American, the water provider, to remotely control the system.  Through remote control Arizona American was able to run the new system with their existing staff saving them costs in salaries.
